Germany: Deutsche Post tests delivery robots
Süddeutsche Zeitung, 05 Oct 2017, online:-
The German postal company Deutsche Post is testing delivery robots which will help postmen and women. The pilot project is to be carried out in Bad Hersfeld. The Post-Bot is 1.5m high, can travel at 6km per hour, can carry up to 150kg of post and has batteries which last up to eight hours. In addition, they can be used in all weather conditions. The robot uses sensors to recognise the postman or woman's legs and so can either follow them or go ahead of them. It is not designed to replace workers, but to relieve them of the heavy work and leave their hands free for deliveries. The Post-Bot was designed on the basis of a robot by French manufacturer Effidence.
