Germany: Hamburg port sees itself well-positioned

Ingo Egloff and Axel Mattern, the managing directors at Hafen Hamburg Marketing (HHM), the unit in charge of marketing activities at the port in Hamburg, Germany, believe that the port Is well-positioned to face the international competition in cargo handling activities. The executives said that Hamburg is and will remain the most important port railway station in Europe and that it is boosting digitalisation processes. A total of 8.9mn TEUs were handled at the port in Hamburg in 2016. The rail links at the port, which has 2,000 container train connections per week, should be expanded accordingly, it has been pointed out.
