Germany: Inland waterway transport in Saxony-Anhalt up 1.9% in H1 2017

The volume of inland waterway transport in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt in the first six months of 2017 rose by 1.9% to around 3.6mn tonnes. Of the total quantity, 1.2mn tonnes were received and 2.4mn tonnes were dispatched. Of the handled goods, one-sixth were hazardous materials. Most of the handled products were from the agriculture, forestry and fishing industries. Around 75% of the products were shipped from or two ports in other German states, while about 25% were destined for, or came from, ports abroad. Container handling on inland waterways increased by 13.2% to 11,584 twenty-foot equivalent units (teu).
