Germany: Duss to automate and digitise cargo handling
Die Deutsche Verkehrszeitung, 15 May 2017, Online:-
Automation and digitalisation are the new focus of Deutsche Umschlaggesellschaft Schiene-Straße (Duss), a German association which supports the cargo handling industry and its workers. The growth in the industry is such that another 20 or 30 terminal modules will have to be built by 2030. To ease the burden, Duss intends to introduce electronic advance booking, automatic recognition and digital check-in. Number plates, loading numbers and dangerous goods labels will be read by cameras. A pilot project is currently underway. All paperwork will be replaced by tablets. Cranes will be controlled by computer.
