The total import and export volumes of goods via the railway network in the Netherlands increased year-on-year by 2.3% to 37mn tonnes in 2016, according to the Dutch statistics bureau CBS. Germany remains the main country for rail import and export with some two thirds of the goods transport per rail going to or coming from Germany. Italy is the second most important trading country with a 15% stake.
