L'Echo, 26 Oct 2016, online:-
According to the Belgian national bank BNB/NBB, the added value of Belgium's six ports increased by 7.3% to EUR 17.90bn (USD 20.11bn) in 2015, up from EUR 16.7bn in 2014. All the ports had growth except for the port in Liège, which shrank by 10.3% due to lower results in non-maritime activities. The port of Antwerp had the highest added value in Belgium, which amounted to over EUR 11bn in 2015, and was up from EUR 10bn in 2014. The port of Ghent had the second highest added value with EUR 3.7bn in 2015, followed by the ports of Brussels with EUR 762.5mn and Ostend with EUR 512.4mn. Despite the added value, the number of full-time equivalent jobs fell from over 116,300 in 2014 to under 114,800 in 2015. All of Belgium's six ports except for Brussels had fewer jobs. Overall, traffic at the ports increased by 1.7%. Individually, traffic at the ports of Ghent and Antwerp grew by 1.8% and 4.7% respectively, while traffic decreased by 1.7% in Brussels and by 2.6% in Liège, and dropped by over 9% in Ostend and Zeebrugge.
