Chile: TEU handling levels at San Antonio port rise by 4% as of October 2017

San Antonio port in Chile handled 1mn TEUs during the first half of October 2017, representing a year-on-year rise of 4%, encompassing cargo handled by Puerto Central (PCE), linked to Matte and Angelini, and by San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI), owned by Grupo Luksic. Overall cargo levels handled at this port reached 13.5mn tonnes during the first few days of October 2017. A total of 289,109 new vehicles were unloaded at this port during January-September 2017, with new vehicle sales in the country reaching 261,000 units during the first nine months of 2017. San Antonio port has doubled its TEU capacity, from 1.5mn TEUs per year as of 2015 to 3mn TEUs during 2017. Valparaiso port handled 8.9mn tonnes of goods during January-September 2017. According to Empresa Portuaria Valparaiso (EPV), Valparaiso port 884,030 TEUs during 2016.
