France: Airbus signs contract to connect logistics operations via Sigfox network
Les Echos, 28 Apr 2017, online:-
French aircraft manufacturer Airbus has signed a contract with Belgian start-up Sensolus in order to connect its logistics operations for aeroplane parts using the Internet of Things (IoT) network of Sigfox. Through this contract, it will be able to track tens of thousands of cases of spare parts passing through its 16 industrial sites in Europe in real time. The geolocation solution uses low energy Bluetooth beacons inside buildings, as well as GPS technology outdoors with an accuracy of 20 metres. The information is sent to the manufacturer's servers via Sigfox's low-cost LPWA (Low Power Wide Area) network. The new system has been operational since February 2017 and Airbus intends to extend this service to its suppliers in a second phase. It plans to install additional sensors to measure the temperature, humidity, shocks and vibration of the parts while they are being transported. The tracking will also apply to its equipment.
