France: Sixth Journées OFP rail freight event has record number of participants
WK Transport Logistique, 17 Nov 2016, online:-
A record 367 participants were recorded at the sixth edition of the Journées OFP rail freight and short-haul rail operator event in the French commune of Levallois-Perret, Hauts-de-Seine department, on 15 November 2016. There were signs of impatience on the progress to be made in rail freight among the attendees, who noted a lack of projects to create new service lines, as well as the difficulties faced by the industry. However, certain actions that have been implemented show that there is finally movement in this regard. The future of the country's feeder lines was also a major topic, although a new regulatory and technical framework for freight transport on lines approaching industrial sidings, as well as feeder lines, is being developed. This future decree is subject to approval from rail and road authority Arafer and the Council of State. If published by the end of 2016, it would cover feeder lines from 1 April 2017 and lines approaching industrial sidings in 2019. Under this decree, changes in line status can be organised according to an orderly process and local or regional entities will be able to apply for the resumption of operations on lines that have been temporarily banned or threatened with closure.
