Germany: Shipping industry concerned about waiting times
Handelsblatt, 04 Jul 2017, online:-
Germany's inland shipping companies have expressed concerns about the long waiting times at the sea ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp, which are leading to delays and increased costs, as well as an environmentally-damaging tendency to use the road for transport instead. The Bundesverband der Deutschen Binnenschifffahrt said that it can take up to 120 hours for containers to be loaded or unloaded at the ports, which means that they can no longer to keep to timetables. The Port of Rotterdam said that it was aware of the problem and that it had taken measures to improve it. The Port of Antwerp said that it was in talks with its clients.
