Global: Importance of global trade stressed by express operators
CEP Research, 10 Nov 2016, online:-
The importance of facilitating international trade as well as maintaining access to markets globally has been stressed by express operators following Donald Trump's election to US presidency. The business tycoon had been promoting a 'protectionist' approach for the economy, threatening to abandon or cancel international trade agreements including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Frank Appel, the CEO of Germany-based Deutsche Post DHL, in October 2016 denounced 'anti-trade protectionism' that might curb economic growth globally. Furthermore, US-based UPS said that they still support TPP, as they think the deal will result in a level playing field for US-based businesses, particularly for medium- and small-sized businesses that have yet to have the type of access they require to compete and participate in the e-commerce-driven, global marketplace. Historically, US export volume of UPS rises 20% on average with nations, following the implementation of free trade deals, said the US package delivery company.
