Netherlands: Planning bureau questions environmental effects of new taxes
De Telegraaf, 31 Oct 2017, Online:-
The Dutch environmental planning bureau Planbureau voor de Leefomgeving states that the implementation of the additional tax for flights will not support the climate targets of the new government. The planning bureau warns that extra emission could arise from passengers travelling abroad to fly from there to avoid the new tax which is meant to reduce greenhouse gas emission. The bureau also states that the planned levy on distance travelled by trucks will could lead to a reduction in distance travelled, but also stresses that very little is certain about this.
