Sweden: APM announces lockout in Port of Gothenburg
Dagens Industri, 11 May 2017, online:-
Port terminal operator APM Terminals has announced that its plans to launch an extensive lockout in the period 19 May to 30 June as part of the ongoing labour conflict in the Port of Gothenburg. This means that customers will only be offered limited services in the daytime between 7 am and 4 pm. APM Terminals has further stated that the lockout is a direct response to the industrial action previously announced by the Swedish Dockworkers' Union (Svenska Hamnarbetarförbundet) for the period 15 May to 30 June. Henrik Kristensen, CEO at the Gothenburg division in APM Terminals, has said that the situation is untenable and that a lockout is the only option available for protecting activities in the company at this point. He further says that the volumes handled in the port might be reduced from about 10,000 to 4,000 per day if the announced action becomes reality.
