Sweden: APM Terminals conducts major lay-offs in Port of Gothenburg
Dagens Industri, 20 Jun 2017, online:-
Container terminal operator APM Terminals confirmed 160 lay-offs of the total of 450 employees in the container terminal in the Port of Gothenburg on 20 June 2017. This is due to a major loss of goods volume and customers following the long conflict with trade union Svenska Hamnarbetarförbundet. Volumes have decreased by 20%, corresponding to a third of normal capacity. Major changes are now planned and the government is called to intervene. Operations are planned to be reduced to two shifts and the night service will be terminated.
