Sweden: Environmental efforts in Port of Oxelösund
Transportnet.se, 09 Dec 2016, online:-
The Port of Oxelösund is involved in a number of environmental projects. The port handles 6,000 tonnes of baled waste each month which is sent to heating plants which supply the Mälardalen region with heat and warm water. The port is currently also testing the use of slaughter waste diesel fuel in its heavy loading machinery which are used at the facility operated by steel company SSAB. Erik Zetterlund, CEO at the Port of Oxelösund, says that the port will make a full shift to fuel in this category if the test proves successful. The port is also involved in a project including SSAB, the Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten) and Kalmar Cargotec. This project aims at developing fuel cell solutions for heavy fork lifts and construction machinery. The port also participates in a sustainability research project instigated by TFK Transport Research Institute (TransportForsK Föreningen, TFK). There is a general objective of researching the potential for expanding maritime transports.
