Sweden: Government proposes stricter transport tax control
Svenska Dagbladet, 14 Dec 2016, Näringsliv p. 6:-
The Swedish government has proposed new regulations aimed at making it easier for the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) to bust road transport companies that engage in tax evasion. This includes mandatory monthly payroll tax reports instead of annual reports. Tax evasion can reportedly be found in truck transport companies as well as package delivery businesses. The Swedish Tax Agency has reported that 39 out of 49 inspected companies were found to have paid insufficient taxes. The total additional tax imposed on these companies amounted to about SEK 44mn (EUR 4.61mn USD 5.18mn). Most instances concern faulty labour reporting. Various strategies have been employed to conceal unreported employment. Swedish Minister for Finance Magdalena Andersson has also called for an increased information exchange at the EU level.
