Sweden: Need for thousands of workers to transport sector by 2030
Göteborgs Posten, 20 Jun 2017, online:-
In Sweden, a report published by market researcher HUI Research on behalf of the Swedish Confederation of Transport Enterprises (Transportföretagen) shows that the transport industry could be in shortage of as many as 30,000-40,000 workers by 2030. The report further states that forecasts from the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) indicate significant transport volume growth over the next few years, where transports of goods and persons are expected to grow by 2% and 1.1% annually, respectively. Caj Luoma, head of education and labour markets at the Confederation, states that fewer young persons are attending vocational schools, and that the government needs to take action in order to alleviate the issue. He further says that one proposal includes driver's licence training in high school, as it is a prerequisite for 60% of the jobs in the industry today.
