Sweden: Proposal to increase transport infrastructure funding
Svensk Sjöfartstidning, 12 Oct 2016, online:-
A new proposal from the Swedish government suggests that an earmarked SEK 622.50bn (EUR 63.86bn USD 70.62bn) for transport infrastructure investments in 2018-2019. According to the proposal, the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) believes that the Swedish shipping industry could play a larger role as a viable alternative to land-based transports, but that improved conditions for the industry is dependent on a lower economic threshold as well as other behaviour-related aspects. Rikard Engström, deputy CEO of the Swedish Shipowners' Association (Svensk Sjöfart), states that while investments in road and railway infrastructure are welcomed by the Association, it is also important to consider measures for the shipping industry as well.
