UK: Report calls for action to prepare country's ports for Brexit
The Guardian, 25 Jul 2017, Online:-
A report backed by the European Research Group of Conservative backbenchers is urging the UK Government to accelerate plans to prepare the country's ports for Brexit. It warns that action must be taken in order to avoid "gridlock" for the UK economy. The report states that steps must be taken to widen roads, improve customs checks, produce lorry parks and accelerate infrastructure projects. The report is also calling for the UK to secure an expanded treaty with France to incorporate customs, as well as a single government ministry to handle all border related issues. The report warns that there is currently a real chance of no deal being agreed with the EU27 by spring 2019. It states that the UK must prepare for this outcome.
