China: Railway cargo volume grows by 15.29% in first three months of 2017

Railway cargo volume of China increased by 15.29% annually to 724mn tonnes during the first three months of 2017, according to the China Railway Corporation. Between January 2017 and February 2017, China transported 14.6% more cargos in volume by trains. In March 2017 alone, cargo trains in China transported 16.3% more cargos to 254mn tonnes. Among 18 local railroad bureaus with higher railway cargo volume, the Urumqi Railroad Bureau posted the highest growth in railway cargo volume at 48.3%. By passenger volume, 227mn passengers travelled by the railways in China during March 2017, up by 6.8%.
