Germany: Kirchheimbolanden to test energy project, RVI to construct new district
Süddeutsche Zeitung, 14 Apr 2017, online:-
The German town of Kirchheimbolanden is to start a test phase to cover its energy demand, including commercial and industrial areas, with green energy only as of 2018. The central energy supply system will be replaced through a decentralised system, which is expected to enable the transformation of solar and wind power in excess into gas or vice versa, if more electricity is required. The test project will be carried out by the German institute of technology KIT, the local energy supplier and economic partners. In addition, the German property developer RVI is constructing a residential and commercial area in the West Lok district of Esslingen am Neckar, Germany, which will generate 80% of the energy demand needed by the new area. In particular, the concept entails the construction of five buildings with a total of 132 flats and a commercial area of 5,600 square metres by 2022.
