Japan: KHI to develop hydrogen facility

In 2017 fiscal year, a facility to supply and store hydrogen will be constructed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI), the Kobe city government and other groups in Japan. This is the maiden hydrogen base in the nation. It is anticipated that the hydrogen facility will be located in the northeastern part of an island. In 2020 fiscal year, a trial will be conducted to examine the hydrogen base's viability. KHI is developing carrier vessels to supply and import hydrogen gases.
Firms including Iwatani and KHI will construct tanks to keep hydrogen gases and other facilities. Quay walls will be constructed by the Kobe city government in spring to cater to the hydrogen carrier ships. The cost of the project is around JPY 1.30bn (EUR 10.98mn USD 11.59mn).
