Lithuania: Klaipeda Port, Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai impacted by low demand
L24.lt, 03 Apr 2017, online:-
Lithuanian oil products forwarders claim that the Port of Klaipeda as well as the rail operator Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai have suffered heavily from the loss of exports from Belarus oil refineries due to Russia cutting crude oil supplies to Belarus. Port of Klaipeda's oil products forwarding contracted 23% in the first two months of 2017 and of Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (LG) by 63% to 304,700 tons, compared to same two months the year before. The rail company is seeking to diversify loss from oil products forwarding and to increase the volume of rail haulage of timber, grains and other products. LG has also signed up Orlen, Neste, Viada, Orlen Lietuva to gain extra forwarding contracts.
