The total goods transport in and from the Netherlands increased year-on-year by 1.2% to 1.67bn tonnes in 2016, according to the Dutch statistics bureau CBS. The increase is entirely due to a 3.7% increase in domestic transport to 0.67bn tonnes. The cross-border transport decreased by 0.3% to 1bn tonnes but a reason for this has not been given. The cross-border road transport to Germany decreased by 4.4% to 24mn trucks and the inland shipping transport to Germany also decreased.
