Netherlands: Inland shipping sector is to see growth in 2017

The Dutch inland shipping sector recorded year-on-year a total transport volume of 173mn tonnes in 2016 and the wet load reached 100mn tonnes, according to Panteia. Of the dry load, some 71mn tonnes were for the Dutch market, 63mn tonnes for export and 39mn tonnes for import while for the wet load this was 35mn tonnes, 39mn tonnes and 26mn tonnes respectively. For 2017, the total inland shipping sector is to increase by 2.5% with lower growth to a total of 344mn tonnes in 2021 compared with 318mn tonnes in 2016 and an expected 326mn tonnes in 2017. The dry load shipping is to see an increase of 21mn tonnes until 2021, tank shipping is to see an increase of 6.6mn tonnes and push-shipping will see a decrease of 1.8mn tonnes. The main growth will come from container shipping.
