The total development of new distribution centres more than doubled from 585,000m2 in 2015 to 1,150,000m2 in 2016, according to DO Research. Some 205,000m2 of this was developed in the region Venlo-Venray, 160,000m2 in West-Brabant, 145,000 in Zuid-Limburg and 100,000m2 each in Amsterdam-Schiphol and Tilburg-Waalwijk. More than half of the newly developed centres were for logistics services providers which is up from 35% and retailers were responsible for roughly a quarter of the developments. Some 6% did not have a user yet by the end of 2016 and the remaining developments were for manufacturers and other companies. The average size of the centres also increased from some 15,500m2 to 23,000m2. Further growth is expected for 2017.
