Germany: Rail freight competitors gain ground on DB in 2016

According to a study by Netzwerk Europäischer Eisenbahnen, freight companies competing with German rail firm Deutsche Bahn were able to increase their market share by 1.2% in 2016, accounting for 41% of freight traffic in tonnes. Captrain Deutschland, a subsidiary of French rail freight firm Captrain, ranked in second place behind Deutsche Bahn, with 9.73%, followed by Czech-based Metrans, with 6.16%. Swiss firm SBB Cargo International held a 5.85% market share while Germany-based TX Logistik held 4.73%. German firms Rhein Cargo, Boxxpress and Rurtalbahn Cargo hold shares of 3.56%,2.93% and 1.31% respectively. Germany-based Havelländische Eisenbahn holds a 1.31% share while CFL Cargo Deutschland, the German subsidiary of CFL Cargo, holds a 0.98% share.
