Sweden: Skogsindustrierna positive to national infrastructure plans
Papper och Massa, 20 Sep 2017, online:-
The Swedish Forest Industries' Federation (Skogsindustrierna) is positive to the proposal regarding a national infrastructure plan from the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket). The proposal includes changes which will allow for 74-tonne trucks as well as longer and heavier freight trains. Karolina Boholm, director of transport at the Federation, comments that the proposal underscores that the Administration is aware of the forest industry's wishes and demands, and that improved railway maintenance seems to finally have become a prioritised issue. Boholm further says that even though the proposal to establish a road network for 74-tonne trucks is positive, it needs be enacted much quicker than proposed, as it would otherwise take up to 25 years to redesign.
