Denmark: Mærsk cooperates with IBM to streamline container freight process
Jyllands-Posten, 16 Oct 2017, online:-
Denmark-based transport and energy conglomerate Mærsk has started to cooperate with US-based technology company IBM for developing a digital platform to streamline the container freight process. IMB and Mærsk are planning to reduce paperwork with the help of block chain technology. Mærsk could save up to DKK 20bn (EUR 2.69bn USD 3.21bn) annually with the new platform, while up to DKK 200bn could be saved in the global supply chain if other industry players share information. IBM's calculations from a pilot project show that paperwork for a container from Kenya to the Netherlands costs about 15% of the freight process. Mærsk and IBM expect to launch the solution before the end of 2017.
