Ireland: Online shopping contributed to 50% of DPD parcel deliveries

Online shopping contributed to nearly 50% of parcel deliveries by Dynamic Parcel Distribution Ireland (DPD Ireland), a courier delivery company owned by France-based GeoPost. By contrast, businesses received more than 90% of DPD's deliveries in 2012. Above 16mn parcel deliveries in 2017 are being anticipated by DPD, which hires nearly 1,000 employees across its network. DPD increased its net assets by more than 27.7% and reduced the amount owed to creditors by 29% to EUR 10.70mn (USD 12.22mn).
The company paid an effective tax rate of 27.7%, as pre-tax profit jumped by above 45% to surpass EUR 8mn. There was a 7.7% rise in the cost of sales and a 13% surge to more than EUR 70mn in turnover for the year to the beginning of January 2017. A plant that can support online grocery shopping has received more than EUR 13mn in investments from DPD. In Ireland, the online grocery shopping industry is worth EUR 170mn.
