Latvia: Volume of rail freight up 1.2% in H1/2017

The volume of freight carried by rail in Latvia totalled 24.367mn tons in the first half of 2017, which was up 1.2% from the same period of 2016, the state-owned railway company, Latvijas Dzelzcels, reported. International cargoes amounted to 23.78mn tons (up 1.2%) and domestic cargoes to 587,500 tons (down 1.5%). Transit cargoes totalled 22.043mn tons, which was up 6.5% over a year. Import cargoes amounted to 1.547mn tons (down 26.2%) and export cargoes to 189,900 tons (down nearly four times) in the first six months of 2017.
