Het Financieele Dagblad, 27 Jul 2017, Online:-
The total goods transport in and from the Netherlands increased year-on-year by 1.2% to 1.67bn tonnes in 2016, according to the Dutch statistics bureau CBS. The increase is entirely due to a 3.7% increase in domestic transport to 0.67bn tonnes. The cross-border transport decreased by 0.3% to 1bn tonnes but a reason for this has not been given. The cross-border road transport to Germany decreased by 4.4% to 24mn trucks and the inland shipping transport to Germany also decreased. Transport from Russia to the Netherlands increased with a 14.3% increase in sea shipping for oil products to 66.7mn tonnes. Some 60.7% of the total goods transport was cross-border transport. Over 0.5bn tonnes came from cross-border sea transport although this was a 0.9% decrease. Cross-border air transport increased by 2.7% to 1.7mn tonnes. Road transport remained with an 82% stake the most important form of domestic transport while inland shipping held a 17.6% stake and rail transport held a 0.4% stake.
