Poland: Rail freight sector records 10% increase in H1

Polish Rail Transport Office (UTK) has reported that 114.1mn tonnes of goods were transported by rail during the first half of 2017 which showed a 10% increase when compared to the corresponding time of the previous year and marked the best result recorded over the past six years. UTK has also revealed that the transport activity measured in tonne kilometres (tkm) reached 25.7bn tkm, up by 7.2% upon the first half of 2016. PKP Cargo, the largest rail freight operator in Poland, increased its already dominant market share from 43.5% to 44.9%, while the share of Freightliner PL rose from 2% to 2.3%. DB Cargo Polska, PUK Kolprem and Rail Polska, had their market shares unchanged at 18.2%, 2.9% and 1.6%, respectively, while the market share of Lotos Kolej shrank from 5.9% to 5.6%, PKP LKS's market share decrease slightly from 4.4% to 4.3% and CTL Logistics saw its share drop from 4.3% to 3.5%
