Sweden: LNG containment facility to be constructed at Port of Gothenburg
Transportnet.se, 14 Aug 2017, online:-
In Sweden, the Port of Gothenburg will receive a LNG containment facility set to commence operations in 2018. It will allow for vessels to bunker gas. The facility will be constructed by gas transmission grid operator Swedegas, and port CEO Magnus Kårestedt states that it will serve to facilitate reduced environmental impact as well as turning the port into a sustainable hub for goods. However, the project has received criticism from environmental organisations which argue against the environmental benefits of LNG. Jöran Fagerlund at environmental organisation Friends of the Earth Sweden (Jordens Vänner), states that LNG is a fossil-based fuel just as much as oil and coal are, and that the Paris Agreement does not leave room for new fossil-based infrastructure.
