Germany: Hermes tests robot delivery service Starship
Die Welt, 28 Feb 2017, online:-
The German parcel delivery service Hermes is currently testing five delivery robots in major German cities. The robots, which have been named Starship, have been designed to distribute parcels from a Hermes shop to customers within a three to four kilometre radius. The company is now carrying out the second phase of tests which centre around customer returns. According to Hermes, subject to approval the company may be able to launch the robot delivery service in between five and ten cities in 2018. Hermes' medium-term goal is for Starship to handle 10% of the company's total parcel delivery business. The robots are manufactured by the Estonia and UK-based startup company Starship Technologies.
