Austria: Gigaliners not allowed to operate on road network
Die Deutsche Verkehrszeitung, 20 Jan 2017, p1:-
The Austrian Minister for Transport Jörg Leichtfried has stated that so-called gigaliners, or longer heavier vehicles, will not be allowed to operate on the Austrian road network. Leichtfried claimed the gigaliners will not help with measure to make the transport system more ecological. He stressed that Austria is aiming to transport goods by rail as much as possible, and said that the country is working to make the transport of goods on rail more attractive. Examples of such efforts include major infrastructure projects like the Semmering base tunnel, the Brenner base tunnel and the Koralm railway, as well as making the Pyhrn-Schober route more efficient.
