Austria: ÖBB orders first of 300 trains from Bombardier
Die Presse, 29 Dec 2016, online:-
Austrian rail operator ÖBB has ordered its first 21 of approximately 300 regional and local trains from Canada-based rail and aircraft manufacturer Bombardier. The trains are expected to be delivered by 2019 and cost around EUR 150mn (USD 168.48mn). The order represents a further blow to ÖBB's traditional partner, Germany-based Siemens' subsidiary in Austria. Siemens had already lost a contract order worth around EUR 500mn from Viennese transport operator Wiener Linien to Bombardier in 2014/15. In 2017, Bombardier and Siemens are both expected to compete for the awarding of a contract for the supply of around EUR 400mn worth of trains for the U5 public transport system in Vienna.
