France: Carrefour forms connected device partnership with Bouygues Telecom
La Tribune, 20 Oct 2016, online:-
French telecommunications company Bouygues Telecom has partnered with retail group Carrefour through Objenious, its new subsidiary dedicated to the Internet of things (connected devices). Under this agreement, mini-sensors will be attached to the retailer's fleet of 150,000 roll containers that are used to move goods stored at its warehouses to its hypermarket stores. The hope is that the data collected from these sensors will enable Carrefour to optimise deliveries and make significant savings on its logistics activities. This project is still in its infancy and so tests with 10,000 roll containers are set to take place in 2017. The tests will ensure that the new low-speed (LoRa) connected device network operated by Objenious is working properly. The company expects this network to cover the whole of France by the end of December 2016, growing from its current coverage of 60%-70% of the country.
