Germany: Arvato SCM Solutions starts FTS pilot project
Deutsche Verkehrs-Zeitung, 13 Nov 2017, online:-
The German supply chain management solutions provider Arvato SCM Solutions has launched a pilot project for automating its sites. Since the beginning of October 2017, a driverless transport system (FTS) has been handling waste disposal at the company's distribution centre in Landsberg, Germany. The FTS was developed by Toyota Material Handling. The company said that the FTS is not intended to replace employees, but to support them. It said that automation enables its employees to devote more time to operations, thereby increasing efficiency and minimising costs. In 2018 the pilot project will transition into the next phase. In the first half of 2018 the clearance of incoming goods is to automated, followed by the automation of storage and retrieval of goods on high shelves in the third phase.
