Germany: Government may ban night operations for rail freight vehicles
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, 24 Oct 2016, online:-
The German Government has not ruled the possibility of introducing a ban on night operations for noisy rail freight vehicles, if at least 50% of the around 43,000 freight wagons registered on the national rolling stock register are not retrofitted with low-noise brakes by the end of 2016, as previously targeted. According to data from the German Government, the German railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB) has retrofitted 42% of its freight wagons with low-noise braking systems so far. This compares to a rate 14% among private competitors.
