Germany: Number of delivery drivers falling
Die Welt, 17 Sep 2017, Online:-
The number of delivery drivers in Germany is falling. According to a report by Dekra, a German vehicle inspection company, around 66% of delivery drivers in the country are over 45 years old. Every year, 50,000 drivers retire and only 10,000 new drivers start. Deutsche Speditions- und Logistikverband (DSLV), a German association representing logistics companies, says that the industry in Germany is lacking 45,000 drivers. Even increasing the average gross wage from EUR 2,000 (USD 2,389.12) per month in 2016 to currently between EUR 2,500 and EUR 3,000 for new starters has not improved the situation.
