Germany: River cargo shipments down 5.5% in Bavaria

According to information presented by the Bavarian office for statistics, river freight cargo shipments in Bavaria, Germany, were down 5.5% to 5.34mn tonnes in the first nine months of 2016 compared to 2015. River freight transportation on the river Danube was down 14.7%. At Bavaria's largest port, in Regensburg, total river freight was down from 1.22mn tonnes to 0.96mn tonnes. The city of Passau, Bavaria, saw perhaps the largest decline, with shipments down 27%. However, the shipment of agricultural and forestry products, chemical products, and waste increased by 2% to 2.17mn tonnes.
