Netherlands: Port of Amsterdam records transhipment increase in 2016

The Dutch Port of Amsterdam recorded year-on-year a 0.4% transhipment increase to 78.8mn tonnes in 2016 based on preliminary figures. The growth was due to a higher export while the import decreased. Wet bulk transhipment increased by some 6% to 45mn tonnes, but coals and agricultural bulk transhipment decreased. Other dry bulk increased, container transhipment remained steady at 600,000 tonnes and the transhipment of cars and other goods decreased. In total 122 cruise-ships visited the port which is a decrease from 139 ships, but the passenger numbers remained steady at 278,000 passengers. The number of river-cruise vessels increased by 6% to 1,876 vessels.
