Sweden: Decrease in railway goods transport

According to figures by Swedish government agency Transport Analysis (Trafikanalys), goods transport on railway decreased by 12% in the period of 2010 to 2015 in Sweden. Meanwhile, the volume of goods decreased by 5%. Transports have thus become shorter. Transport work on goods trains decreased by 12% to 21 billion tonne-kilometres. 65 million tonnes of goods were transported in 2015, a decrease by 5% from 2010. One tonne of goods was transported for the average of 317 kilometres. This is a decrease from 343 kilometres. According to Transport Analysis' statistician, Fredrik Lindberg, transportation costs could be reduced by more direct transport routes.
