Sweden: Government increases truck gross weight to 74 tonnes
Svensk Åkeritidning, 05 Oct 2016, online:-
The Swedish government has decided to increase the gross weight for trucks to 74 tonnes to enable more competitive and environment friendly transportations. There will be an evaluation of the Swedish roads to determine which ones have the bearing capacity for 74 tonnes. Swedish Minister of Infrastructure Anna Johansson claimed that the aim is to identify roads in areas without access to railway or sea transport. Railroad freight will receive an additional environment compensation, although its final form is not decided. There was no information on how the expected road wear tax will be affected by the increase of gross weight.
