Sweden: Government to allow trucks with a gross weight of 74 tonnes
Svenska Dagbladet, 04 Oct 2016, Näringsliv p.2:-
Swedish Minister of Infrastructure Anna Johansson and Minister for the Environment Karolina Skog write in an opinion piece that the introduction of 74 ton trucks will reduce emission and negative effects on the economy. The government already aims to move transports to railways by increasing the railway service fundings with SEK 1.30bn (EUR 135.25mn USD 151.67mn) annually. The government is also preparing a proposal for environmental compensation for transports by rail. A road wear tax is to be introduced. The government will increase funds to the Police by SEK 25mn annually between 2017 and 2020 to supervise traffic. Truck companies that do not follow regulations will be thus eliminated. The new trucks with a gross weight of 74 tonnes will strengthen the competitive force of truck companies.
