Sweden: Maritime Administration reports on maritime traffic potential
Transport Idag, 03 Jan 2017, online:-
The Swedish Maritime Administration (Sjöfartsverket) has reported that there is good potential for increasing sea freight transport volumes. Almost 90% of all export and import of goods in Sweden are transported via maritime traffic. However, the competitiveness of domestic maritime goods transport is limited compared to road and railway freight. Instead, the major potential is to be fund in transports between Swedish and European ports. Major structural measures are needed to make inland, coastal and short-route domestic sea shipping competitive.
