Construction of new electrified railway Kardonbanan between Åby and Norrköping harbour will be launched in 2017. The objective is to increase the share of railway freight transports.The project is part of a larger development project of the infrastructure in connection with the harbour. Kardonbanan is financed by the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) and Norrköping Municipality. The line will be taken into operation in 2018 or 2019 according to plan. There are also plans for developing the nearby Pampus harbour terminal.
