Sweden: Projekt Malmporten to negotiate dredging permit in court
Svensk Sjöfartstidning, 28 Nov 2016, online:-
Main negotiations regarding Projekt Malmporten is set to commence in the Land and Environment Court of Luleå. The project intends to relieve ore transports to Narvik via improved capacity and deeper fairways at the Port of Luleå, where a new dredging permit would allow the Port to accept vessels with a loading capacity of up to 160,000 tonnes, compared to 15,000 tonnes today. As the Port of Luleå has been given strategic importance status by the European Union, it will receive financial support to cover some of the total costs of about SEK 3bn (EUR 307.15mn USD 326.01mn). Should the Court approve of a permit, Projekt Malmporten could commence construction in 2018-2019.
