Sweden: Shippers' Council criticises the transport policy for 2018
Sjöfarts Tidningen, 25 Sep 2017, online:-
The Swedish Shippers' Council (Näringslivets transportråd) has expressed criticism regarding the government budget proposal for 2018. The transport policy proposed is said to be contradictory, which will result in compromised job growth, competitiveness and sustainability in the transport sector. The various taxes and fees proposed for transport are said to be ineffective. Maritime pilot fees will continue to increase by an additional 5% in 2018 according to the budget proposal. Furthermore, the sulphur directive will result in negative effects for Swedish exports. Furthermore, the new waterway charges proposed have been disapproved by government agency Transport Analysis (Trafikanalys).
